I guess the combination of Hutch and John Buultjens was never going to produce a "good enough" Hutch bike. John, of course, designed the whole Haro Lineage line over the last 10 or so years, setting a whole new industry standard, so you know that every detail on these will be PERFECT.
Another of Hutch's iconic products from the 1980's, the Aerospeed cranks are almost mythical, we only ever had one set of the woodruff-key originals back in 1984. These new cranks use the industry-standard 48 spline spindle and the very latest production methods. 175mm arms only, Chrome plated.
Previously, Hutch Aerospeed cranks were made in USA using a dozen different suppliers throughout Wisconsin (some of which would provide multiple operations and at different stages, so logistics on this project was a nightmare)! As we went to Taiwan for complete bikes, the most difficult task was convincing the best crank maker there to even try to make this design. Initially they said "no way", but we challenged them by saying that we already made a thousand sets here. So they took the bait and signed-up for the challenge. We had to ship our very heavy die-stamp tool by airplane to them, and also provided an extremely detailed set of instructions with diagrams and photos. NOT ONLY did they make Aerospeeds to the high-level quality that we did in USA, they took it to the insanely-next level by using a method called hyperbaric welding on the most difficult step. This basically translates to welding from the inside out, rather than only from the outside. The end result was far superior than anything we could've done here in the States for the bicycle industry. They have made the same exact shape, same exact chrome finish, but have a strength factor that likely exceeds every single chromoly crank arm ever produced in the 50 year history of BMX! These new Aerospeeds are machine-tested to simulate rider conditions of a 400 lb rider at 400,000 cycles with no failure of the crank arms or spindle. All we can say is...WOW!
